Zomato is going to shut down its cashless payments business named Zomato Cashless. It has partnered with Emirates NBD, which is a Dubai based bank that has introduced this feature in 2015 February. Cashless Zomato has allowed users to dinner and settle their bills without actually paying cash or swiping cards at the restaurants in Dubai. They used credit cards. Cashless was not taken to any further country in the last 8 months. Deepinder Goyal co-founder and CEO of Zomato announced “ We are going to roll out the cashless version from the country in next coming days.”
The shutdown happened due to the lack of product fitting in the current form. It was not looking natural user flow. Zomato was also bearing the cost of iPads that were placed at restaurants . that alone costs made the Zomato looked unviable. They also need to educate the restraint staff on cashless basis scheme. Further it required too much of maintenance there on. Zomato is planning to bring back the cashless feature but with a base that will support cloud. And it will work on point of sale scheme , where booking, table management is required, thus any participating outlets does not need to install any hardware compatible to the scheme.
