With increasing level of pollutants and the particulate matter in the air respiratory problems are also gaining speed in the city, eventually a spurt in the number of people affected has been noticed like that of bronchitis, asthma, and ailments. The people suffering from Respiratory disorders such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD) has been worsen at this time of the year because of the smog as told by Prof. Dr J C Suri who is the head at Safdarjang Hospital. There has been immense increase in the number of people having cough, cold, and chest congestion.
Dr Suri said” Its a fact that when the pollution level rises then the patients suffering from COPD that is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease get into worse conditions as their sickness increases, we normally suggest them not to step out in dark times when the pollution level is at risk.” According to a dr in AIIMS this tiny PM 2.5 particles can travel into thepath of lungs and get trapped there thus thickening and swelling the windpipes that leads to de-functioning of the lungs and cardiac conditions.
