Facebook has recently shut down its controversial Free Basics
project in India, it was just after the Telecom regulatory Auithority of India (TRAI) that has ruled out the operator from charging any different rates for different media present on net , that was dealing with a blow to Facebook’s Free Basics and other such plans. As per a spokesperson of Facebook it was states that “ No more free basics are available in India”. Facebook had met a backlash in India
from “net neutrality” advocates, that say that if we take up with free basics than it will allow only particular sites to be accessible that will render the equality of everyone to have access to internet as a whole. This service was basically available in India by Rcom but was abolished in December after the orders of trai.
According to the trai Cahirman Ram Sewak Sharma.” We have been taking out the regulation mandatory to no service provider shall be liable for differential pricing on the basis of material over internet and it should be available to all equally.”
